I take pride in my work.</font><font face="Arial"><b><a href="workshop.htm"><br> <br> </a><a href="main.htm">Entrance</a><br> <br> </b> <font size="2">Nic's Vacuums and Small Appliance has been at this location since 1961.  Nicolas Deroche started repairing appliances for neighbors and friends out of his garage.  Nic was so god at it and people loved his Belgian charm.  As the word spread, business bloomed.  He outgrew his garage and 216 Del Mar would become Nic's Vacuum and Small Appliances to this day.</font></font></p> <p align="left"><font size="2" face="Arial">In 1975 Nic sold the business to his brother-in-law Ray Dekens, who had a special way with people.  With a little help from Nic, he became a master in the field of small appliance repair.</font></p> <p align="left"><font size="2" face="Arial">My name is Jean-Louis, and I also had an obsession with small appliances and how they worked.  When I was a little boy, I would dig up things that were thrown in the trash by my father, when nobody was looking, I would take them apart to find out what was inside them, and how they worked.  The problem was I could never put them back together.  Then in 1989 Nic introduced me to Ray Dekens.  Ray taught me everything, from how to change a belt on a vacuum, to silver soldering a belt buckle, as well as how to make a customer smile.  Today Nic lives in Carmel, CA and is doing very well. Ray passed away in 1999 of cancer; we miss him very much.</font></p> <p align="left"><font size="2" face="Arial">I am now the owner of Nic's Vacuums and Small Appliance.
